Vehicle Sales Peru: 2012

The Original  Peruvian Transportation - Almost Unstoppable

I have been going back over some of my older posts and noticing nations and brands I have overlooked in posting. Peru missed out in 2012, after writing about 2011 and 2010. Please click on the years just shown to go to them directly, or go to 'Nation - Latin Amer' at the labels to your right for all the region's blogs. Anyway. here is 2012 for all vehicles.

Hyundai Elantra

The market grew 19% over 2011, and is growing well in 2013 as well. I have figures for Peru going all the way back to 2002, and Toyota has been top all that time. It still is, but being hunted by Hyundai.

The yellow highlighting below represents Asia and it is clear how that continent dominates sales in Peru. Many Latin American nations favour US and Europe, but not here. Even Chinese brands have made solid inroads.

Lotus Car Sales By Country: 2012

The Evora Model

Lotus is a small sports car maker owned by Proton since 1996. Apart from the better known car production side of things, Lotus also does engineering consultancy work through its Lotus Engineering division.

Like any company of this size, profitability is a challenge. The product is specialised so will only have so many buyers in any particular country. Therefore it needs to sell in as many places as possible. It seems some work could be done in this area.

These figures have been gained from many sources and are as accurate as possible. There is a brand in China of the same name and they have a tie with Proton, but to my knowledge Lotus sports cars are not presently sold there. Japan is a surprise leader for Lotus cars, as is Australia's 5th spot.

There is something special about Lotus cars. Their sporting heritage, the fun they offer and the attractive styling all add to the mystique. I believe there are now no new models coming, the current range will carry the brand. The plans to upgrade those existing models I am unsure of. I hope a sustainable plan emerges soon for future models of this iconic brand.

Jaguar F-Type Hardtop Is Here

On a beautiful day, it must be fantastic to put the top down and go cruising. I say 'must be' as I have never done it. It should be on my bucket list. Anyway, for most motoring days the hardtop will be the more practical choice. It will surely be the bigger seller of the two. (Up until Oct 2013 just over 5,000 soft tops have been sold worldwide, about 6 months of sales).

Why did Jaguar opt for the soft top first? It could have been to take some heat out of the demand while production is ramped up. Then when manufacturing is in full swing, bring in the bigger selling version. Whatever the reason, the car as seen below has arrived.

The problem I foresee is making enough. There is a cap of 15,000 units for the F-Type and the XK due to limitations with the aluminium processing of the bonnet (US: hood). This can only mean an eye watering waiting list. Maybe they can squeeze a few more out but this is such a looker - as well as a great drive - demand will surely be too high for production capacity. I guess in that case residual prices (second hand market) will hold up very well.

Aston Martin Sales By Country: 2012

Aston Martin Vanquish

Aston Martin is a small, independant car maker, which is not an easy thing to be in this day and age. Keeping models up to date is expensive, so sufficient sales volume and the price you charge for the cars becomes critical.

Ford was the owner and still provides engines. In future, new models will be powered by Mercedes and use components from them. Co-operation with another manufacturer is essential in remaining viable when operating on this scale.

To access data from AM,  it seems you need to be a shareholder. The sales figures below have been gleaned by me from various sources (thank you to them)  and appear to represent most sales for the brand. As you can see, sales reduced by 19% in 2012. They are as accurate as I can ascertain. The colour coding of nations is to do with the region they are from. I am unsure of sales by model.

Hopefully AM see such data as good publicity for them. In the past articles on this subject have been very popular. Sales figures for previous years can be found under the 'Brand - Britain' label to the right. Otherwise you can access them by clicking on 2011 and 2010. A general article about the marque I wrote a while back can be found here.

2013 should be a better year for sales for AM.
